How to hide or unhide any drive from your Windows PC

At times we  come across a situation when we have to share our personal computer with someone else and we don’t want that person to look into certain drives on your computer. You could have some confidential things saved on those drives like files, documents, passwords, personal pictures,

videos and what not, and you don’t want anyone else to access them as those files are personal to you. Well, here is a small how to guide using which you can hide/unhide any drive on your windows PC.

Please follow the steps below to hide/unhide your system’s drive.
Step 1: Use “Run” command on your windows machine to open command prompt by typing “cmd” in text box
Step 2: Now type this command “diskpart”  in command prompt as shown in the screen below and press “Enter”. Click “yes” if any authentication pop up comes up.

Step 3: One you’ll click “Yes” on the authentication popup, below window will appear as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 4: Now type the command “list volume” and press “Enter”, you’ll see the drives of your computer listed below as shown in the screenshot.

Step 5: Now type the below command to select the drive you want to hide. Suppose I want to hide drive ‘F’ on my system, hence, I’ll type the command “select volume F” and then press “Enter”. You will see the window as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 6: Now type the command “remove letter F” to hide the selected drive, it will show the message that “Diskpart successfully removed the drive letter or mount point” as shown in the screenshot below. This means that now drive F is hidden from your system and no one can access it other than you.

Step 7: Type command “exit” to close “diskpart” command prompt window.
Now if you’ll open windows explorer you’ll see that the drive you have selected to hide is not visible anymore and you know why.
To get the hidden drive back all you have to follow the same steps except the one used in step 6. Commands are shown below in their order to unhide the hidden drive.
> diskpart
> list volume 
> select volume 3 (use volume number instead of name here)
> assign letter F 
> exit
